If you're coming to San Francisco, be sure and wear (Wendy's) flowers in your hair

Kay L., one of our long-time customers with a jazzy sense of style, popped into Timeless Treasures a few weeks ago, looking like the proverbial Breath of Fresh Air. She was wearing the most luscious, oversize pin made of raspberry sherbet-colored felted wool with a cantaloupe-shade center.

Thanks to super-sleuthing by Kay, we've tracked down the artist who designed that little work of art. She is Wendy Allen, and her sensational line of brightly colored scarves, hats for kids and grown-ups, flower pins and cozy slippers are all handmade of 100% felted wool right here in San Francisco.

Last Monday morning, I met Wendy, and chose my first order of her utterly adorable flowers and scarves in springtime shades of fuscia, sage green, wedgwood blue, cantaloupe and buttercup. Here you can see Wendy outside her Mission District studio, posing with a posey in her hair. (I couldn't resist.)

The flowers come with a sturdy bobby pin so that they can be pinned in your hair, a pinback to attach them to a hat or a summer carrybag, and a thin velvet ribbon so they can be draped around your neck. The scarves are ideal for San Francisco to ward off our summer chill.

So versatile, so luscious, so locally made! We are smitten, and bet you will be, too. They are already a hit at Henri Bendel's in New York, and will be carried at the Bon Marche in Paris this fall.

Come check them out. How about flowers for Mom on Mother's Day? And for your oh-so-hip, soon-to-be-a-graduate fashionista? To add a little je ne sais quoi to that simple spring outfit you just bought? Whatever. . . these blooms are sure to brighten your day.
