Sign 'em Up: Big Sur Bakery features Timeless Treasures sign letters

As you drive along the magnificent Pacific Coast Highway south of Monterey and Carmel, there's a "blink-and-you-miss-it" gas station and restaurant located right off the highway in the heart of Big Sur. In recent years, the three owners of Big Sur Bakery and Restaurant have attracted a loyal following by creating what has been called ""a rare beauty: a great restaurant with soul."

Now you can read all about it in The Big Sur Bakery Cookbook, a newly published book that tells the story of a year in the life of Big Sur, including profiles and stunning photographs of the people and the food that make this lovely little place such a favorite with locals and others fortunate enough to stumble upon it.

There's a local angle for Timeless Treasures. The sign that welcomes people to the restaurant, which is featured in the photo on the left, is made entirely of vintage sign letters chosen at Timeless Treasures a few years ago by a Carmel designer. The repurposed letters seem right in keeping with the "locally grown and sustainable" approach taken by owners Michelle and Phillip Wojtowicz and Michael Gilson.
