What makes a treasure timeless?

It's the bracelet or ring that you wear every day. And the small chest of drawers or table that you take along every time you move. It's the stack of books you would never think of loaning because you'd fret about getting them back.

When you clear the clutter and swear to live more simply, timeless treasures are the possessions that you keep .

When I started my shop on Sutter Street nearly eight years ago, I spent countless hours at auctions and flea markets searching for vintage furniture from France and America, as well as fanciful, sometimes quirky objects to complement it.

I was drawn to the luscious, lustrous surface of a waxed wooden chest of drawers or the worn paint on a small bench, the curve and warmth of a sterling teapot and the smooth, cool touch of old cotton quilts. Next came vintage letters of all sizes and materials, including old wooden sign letters, metal and plastic movie marquee letters, ABC blocks and old rubber stamps. Then elegant glass pedestal cake stands and vintage water and wine goblets, as well as old sterling lockets and gold-filled antique hearts.

Gradually I began to add new collections, things I call treasures of tomorrow... handsewn critters made from recycled cotton and wool by women in the Berkshires of Massachusetts. Letterpress note cards small enough for a quick note and large enough to leave an impression. New jewelry, beautifully handmade in America.

Now we are delighted to introduce treasures for little ones designed by two Bay Area Moms. We are convinced that you will savor them long after your little one is off to school, perhaps handing them down to younger ones.

We have baby blankets and bibs by Grace Kraaijvanger of Ticklebaby ($26 to $88), made with the softest, cute-as-a-bug's ear, high-quality fabrics and detailed craftsmanship. Plus, absolutely adorable dresses and Bermudas for little girls by Beth Miles of ses petites mains ($35 to $78).

Already this week we are seeing people touch the Ticklebaby blankets and then linger as though they are patting a kitty or a puppy. "So soft!" we hear over and over.

We think they are destined to become family favorites, and this summer's #1 baby gift! The baby blanket is perfect for warmth during a city stroll, for "Mommy and Me Yoga" or to soothe baby's tender skin as a luxurious playmat. The pacifier pocket is handy, and the retro-yet-contemporary prints offer several cute options.

For a slightly older youngster, we think you will delight in Beth's first collection. All the pieces can be worn together. When your little one insists on dressing herself, ses petites mains makes it a snap. Somerset, Beth's four-year-old, shows us a shirtwaist over a slip, a slip as a dress on its own and a tunic that goes with Bermuda shorts.

They are available in sizes 18 months, 2T, 3T, 4T and 5. Come by, or give us a call, and we will be happy to choose something adorable for your niece, granddaughter or Daddy's Little Princess.
